Roof Cost Calculator Explained
A 2,000-square-foot measured roof surface gives an architectural-asphalt planning range of $9,000 to $15,000 using the Oklahoma/OKC-area benchmark. Change the roof surface or footprint below to see how size affects the example.
The model covers 1,500 to 3,000 square feet of roof surface with one existing layer, normal access, moderate complexity and usable decking. That makes it useful for early budgeting before the actual roof and repair needs are measured.

Calculate an Asphalt Roof Planning Budget
Keep the starting example or enter a roof area you already know. The tool converts a footprint using the entered pitch and checks whether the roof fits this model.
Keep the 2,000 sq. ft. example, or enter an area you already know. Roof footprint means the area covered, not total living space.
Keep the 6:12 example unless you already know the pitch. Pitch helps check material suitability.
Planning budget example
Planning example for 2,000 sq. ft. of actual roof surface, using architectural asphalt shingles. Ordinary tear-off is included.
This example assumes one existing shingle layer, normal access, moderate complexity and usable decking. Repairs, metal and low-slope systems need a different scope.
Discuss your roof projectArchitectural asphalt planning for 1,500 to 3,000 square feet of roof surface. Extra layers, deck repairs, structural work, permit fees and upgrades need separate allowances.

What the planning example includes
The August 2026 Oklahoma/OKC-area pricing benchmark, checked October 27, 2026, supports architectural asphalt roofing on 1,500 to 3,000 square feet of measured roof surface. It assumes one existing layer, normal access, moderate complexity and a usable deck. This is a regional planning scenario for Jones owners, rather than a project quote.
Known roof surface includes the sloped planes being covered. The footprint option converts the area below the roof using the entered pitch; the result still has to fit the supported roof-surface range. A square of roofing equals 100 square feet of roof surface.
Ordinary one-layer removal is included. Additional layers, damaged decking, structural repairs, permit fees, difficult access and optional upgrades are separate. The calculator does not price commercial membranes, metal, low-slope work or localized repairs.
Roof Surface, Footprint and Roofing Squares
Roof area describes the work above the rooms, not simply the amount of interior living space.
| Measurement | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Known roof surface | How to read itThe sloped area of the roof planes being covered. The starting 2,000-square-foot example equals 20 roofing squares. |
| Roof footprint | How to read itThe area below the roof. The calculator increases it for the entered pitch; overhangs and separately roofed areas still have to be represented in the input. |
| Outside the model | How to read itBelow 1,500 or above 3,000 square feet of roof surface receives no price result. Asphalt below 2:12 is rejected so a low-slope system can be discussed. |
What Changes the Jones Roofing Budget
A size calculation cannot see the condition beneath the covering.
Deck and existing layers
Extra tear-off layers, soft sheathing and structural work need a separate allowance. The example assumes a usable deck and an ordinary one-layer removal.
Details and access
Complex intersections, roof height, steepness and difficult staging can increase labor. No maximum pitch is established by the pricing source.
A different roofing system
Metal, commercial membranes, coatings and localized repairs need their own scope and prices. The tool does not transfer asphalt rates to them.
